Karl XV 4 Riksdaler National coin 1865. Obverse: profile portrait of Karl XV and text "CARL XV SVERIGES NORR. GOTH. AND TURN. KING". Front page: Stora Riksvapnet, 4 Rd Riksm. 1865, "COUNTRY SHALL BE BUILT BY LAW", which was Charles XV's election language. Well-preserved example of this very large utility coin. Mint Master Sebastian Tham. Within the coinage, an investigation into a possible gold standard began under Charles XV. A motion in the Riksdag led to the introduction of a new gold coin, called the carolin, which corresponded to 10 francs within the Latin Coin Union. Karl died in Malmö on 18 September 1872 of intestinal tuberculosis. He was buried in Riddarholm Church.
