Septimius Severus was a Roman emperor who ruled from 193 to 211 AD. He was born in Leptis Magna in present-day Libya and was the first Roman emperor to come from Africa.
Septimius Severus was a skilled military leader and conducted several major military campaigns in both the East and West during his time as emperor. He also reformed the Roman army, increasing its size and efficiency.
As emperor, Septimius Severus was also known for his building projects and he erected several large buildings, including a triumphal arch in Rome to commemorate his military victories.
