Napoleon III France 10 francs 1857. On the front of the coin we see Napoleon III's head in profile with the text "NAPOLEON III EMPEREUR". Underneath is the engraver's name, "Barre". The reverse side shows the value, 10 francs and the year of issue 1857 surrounded by a laurel wreath. The mint's seal "A" or "BB" is also found under the wreath. In this case an "A", which means it was minted in Paris. The 10 franc gold coin is France's most famous coin and one of the most famous gold coins in Europe. The French gold franc was the basis for the Latin Monetary Union, Europe's first major currency union.
