Collecting coins is exciting for all ages!

Collecting coins and other historical items is probably the first and greatest hobby of all time. Collecting things that you think are beautiful and valuable has been done by people in all times and cultures. We at samlarmynt.se have a strong interest in history and coins and are looking for new exciting objects every day!

History

Few things make you feel the wings of history like holding a 2,000-year-old Roman coin that someone used to trade food with, or holding a gold coin, previously hastily buried as the enemy army approached. Several coins are themselves historical documents with texts and images that can identify historical people and events, such as births, coronations and burials. Other coins have a personal history, how and where they were found or what owners they had. Through coins you can learn about many exciting cultures and kingdoms that have existed throughout the ages!

If you have children or grandchildren, collecting coins is a fantastic and exciting way to tell history!

Beauty

Coins are works of art, and since they are often intended to signal the greatness of a king or country, they are often very beautiful and typical of their time, place and minting methods. Collecting coins is therefore to be considered as collecting a part of history. From the fine antique silver coins with gods and city symbols, to the rough English cross coins of the Viking age, to the well-detailed gold ducats of the Great Power era with powerful royal portraits or the modern coins of the French Republic and the United States of America with symbols of freedom and success.

Investment

Coins have always been thought of as a store of value, but it has often happened that the coins have increased in value since they were taken out of use as normal means of payment, or already while they were still in use. Perhaps you know someone who kept a thousand-kroner note with Gustav Vasa's portrait when they were taken out of use in 2016. Today it is worth more than 1,000 kroner. This is because the coins (and notes) are destroyed when they become invalid and many older coins are melted down or forgotten or lost in fires, shipwrecks and the like. This makes the specimens that remain more valuable, often far beyond the value of the denomination or the value of the metal they are made of. Coins that were struck from the very beginning in relatively small editions such as ducats become even more rare, and thus valuable. Collecting ducats can therefore be a very valuable part of your coin collecting hobby.

Some invest in coins solely for the metal, which we often think is a mistake, as the numismatic coins often have a collector's value far above the metal value itself. Often, even ignorant people run the risk of melting down priceless art treasures if they do not understand the value of an unusual coin.

Numismatic coins have in the last 10 years increased in value by about 220%, which actually beats most other investments. If you also think history is fun and think they are beautiful, you will enjoy them a lot while you have them, unlike numbers in a bank account!

Of course, we cannot guarantee any return on coins you buy from us, but encourage, as is done in art circles, to buy what you like and to keep it as long as you can.
